The story is about Mrs Yang, a Maohou (Hair Monkey) master, recalling her life with her late husband. The film starts with Mrs Yang in the forest where she collects cicadas for her craft. As she works on the cicadas to make the monkeys, she tells stories about her husband who she admires as a grand master of Maohou. The film follows Mrs Yang to a primary school where she teaches her craft to the students and tells them stories about the Chinese culture. Mrs Yang tries to pass on her craft to her grandson by teaching him how to collect cicadas.
我们讲的是毛猴制作大师杨爱玲女士回忆她已故丈夫的故事。电影是以杨老师在树林里采集蝉蜕开始，杨老师讲述自己与丈夫过去的时光。在她制作毛猴的过程中讲述在她心中丈夫是大师的形象，她以丈夫为骄傲，对丈夫的情感难以忘怀，所以她每一次的创作过都仿佛在与丈夫交流。影片记录了杨老师在实验二小教授小朋友们制作毛猴以及给孩子们讲述中国传统文化，这也达到杨老师想让年轻的一代人了解中国传统文化的初衷。在影片的结尾，杨老师带孙子在公园采集蝉蜕，并且希望能够将这份祖传的手工艺传授给他。
